《穆克斯》導演奧拉西奧‧阿爾卡拉説：「我是經朋友介紹才得知穆克斯這個群體的，當晚我便開始著手調查相關資料，隔天就決定前往墨西哥了。我一開始還沒想好要怎麼拍，是經由與他們相處後才發想出這個故事。我發現他們有非常重要的訊息要傳個這個世界，所以觀眾可以在片中看到許多的層次。雖然這是虛構的故事，但我很希望透過這部電影讓更多人知道穆克斯這個群體，尤其是他們對社會的包容。」
「我在遇到這些穆克斯群體的時候，他們告訴我許多自身經歷，我也是透過他們的故事發展出這部電影，所以在劇中角色的遭遇基本上是真人真事，除了劇中出現大地震之外。應該說墨西哥確實會有地震，但劇中的地震是由穆克斯們引起的，因此這可以算是一種魔幻寫實的類型。」

「劇中的那面牆可以視為大自然與穆克斯溝通的方式，所以觀眾可以發現，德利里奧面對牆尖聲呼喊的時候，伴隨著第一道裂痕出現，也就是那個裂痕導致地震出現。那面石牆是真實存在的，但它與穆克斯文化其實並無關聯，也就是說，這部分也是虛構的。我當時希望片中能有更多『角色』，所以選擇讓這面牆成為穆克斯宇宙中的一分子，希望能為這個故事增添一點魔法。」
I didn't know about Muxes until a friend of mine in Mexico told me about them. Then I realised the existence of Muxes. I didn't sleep that night; I was researching them all night. The following day I decided to go to Mexico to meet them and see how to make this film. When I met them, they told me something had happened to them (Muxes), and I picked up those things to develop into the script. So in the film, what happened to the three Muxes really did happen in reality, except for the earthquake.
The earthquake did happen, but not the way it's shown in the film. Because in the film, they (Muxes) created the earthquake. In the story, I made it that the Muxes goes to the wall. There is communication between the Muxes and the wall, which is mother earth. Because there is so much suffering for the Muxes, the elderly Muxes screamed at the wall and created the crack, which then created the earthquake.
The film Finlandia has a layer of documentary where at the same time, it's fiction. I'm also explaining who are Muxes. I have a personal interest in Muxes because they have a message to the world, which is tolerance." - said Horacio Alcala, Director of Finlandia.
